Borough honors brave Service Men and Women with new Military Service Medal!

UPDATE for 06/02/2015: Tom McElwee of Palmyra’s War Memorial Committee presented a check to Mayor Scheffler during the Council Meeting of Monday, June 1st in the amount of $1000 for the purchase of Military Service Medals.  The donation was provided by the Roger Ulrich Hubbs American Legion Post #156 of Palmyra.  Additional Military Service Medals will be presented to our Veterans at future award ceremonies.  The next event is scheduled for this Veterans Day, November 11, 2015.

UPDATE for 05/26/2015: Borough awards first 34 Military Service Medals to Veterans during annual Memorial Day Observance held on Monday, May 25, 2015.  Next award ceremony is scheduled for Veterans Day, November 11, 2015.  See instructions below* on how to request your Military Service Medal.

The Borough is proud to recognize and honor our brave Service men and women with a new Military Service Medal minted especially for Veterans who were residents of Palmyra at the time of their enlistment.

* If you’ve already provided your personal information and discharge/separation papers (DD-214 or WD-AGO 53-55) to the Palmyra War Memorial Committee – or if your name already appears on our Veterans monuments — simply request your Military Service Medal by providing your name and contact information via email to militaryservicemedal@boroughofpalmyra.com or by calling Marie at (856) 829-6100 ext. 130.

For new requests, please apply by completing the Application Form (Microsoft Word version)  (fillable PDF version) and mailing to:

You must enclose a copy of your DD-214 or WD-AGO 53-55 showing an honorable discharge with the Application. Please redact your SSN and any other private information that may appear on your discharge/separation papers however.

Please note: if your name appears on our Veterans monuments, we already have your information and discharge papers and there is no need to provide it again – simply request your Military Service Medal by email or phone.

MILITARY SERVICE MEDALS ARE INTENDED FOR VETERANS WHO WERE PALMYRA RESIDENTS AT THE TIME OF ENLISTMENT.

ALL MILITARY SERVICE MEDALS WILL BE PERSONALLY PRESENTED AND WILL NOT BE MAILED.

Military Service Medals will also be awarded posthumously to honor those Palmyra residents who made the ultimate sacrifice. Surviving next-of-kin of those Service members who were killed in action may also apply for a Military Service Medal in the same manner as described above. Simply complete the Application Form or contact us via email or by phone if we already have the Veterans information. At this time Military Service Medals will only be presented to those deceased veterans who were killed in action.
