Mayor Gina Ragomo Tait has cancelled the Regular Borough Council Meeting scheduled for Monday, March 16, 2020, the Caucus Council Meeting scheduled for Monday, April 6th, and the Borough Council Budget Workshop Meeting scheduled for Saturday, March 28th, as precautionary measures for the purpose of helping to protect the health and welfare of our residents, community partners, and Borough staff.

The Borough is waiting on direction from the state regarding potentially revised mandatory Budget introduction and adoption dates in order to reschedule the Budget Workshop Meeting.

The Borough is also working on potentially establishing a process to allow remote Borough Council Meetings. The necessary technology and Open Public Meetings Act requirements and compliance are being investigated.

Borough Hall and all Borough facilities are closed through April 19, 2020. Borough employees will continue to report to work to take your calls and process tax and sewer payments, but staffing levels have been reduced to 50% in order to limit potential exposure to the virus. Appropriate staff are also working from home where possible. Please be patient. All essential personnel including Police, Fire, Public Works and Sewer Departments remain fully staffed.

These actions are a precaution only and we’re hopeful it’ll just be a temporary measure. We need to continue to monitor and evaluate what are minute by minute Coronavirus developments however, before making any decisions about future meetings and opening Borough facilities. In addition, Land Use Board Meetings scheduled for March 18th and April 15th have also been cancelled and Municipal Court cases scheduled for March 26th will be postponed until a later date. If you have a matter pending in Municipal Court expect to receive a notice advising you of your new appearance date.

As Borough Hall is closed residents are urged to use the drop box located outside the front door for any tax or sewer payments, or to mail your payment and any other correspondence. Online tax and sewer payments are always accepted too of course by going to https://wipp.edmundsassoc.com/Wipp/?wippid=0327.

Keep in mind this is a public building and is accessed by many people during the day. While we remain extra vigilant in cleaning and sanitizing the public areas we are especially concerned about exposures to our Senior citizens and other potentially vulnerable residents and therefore decided to close the building.

It is also very important for everyone to understand that the Borough has not been informed by any health agency about other local Coronavirus infections other than what has already been reported by the media and posted on our website. The measures we’re undertaking are precautionary only and out of concern for our residents, and to keep everyone as informed as possible.

Please know that Mayor Tait and the members of Borough Council consider your safety their top priority, and closing facilities to the general public and cancelling public events, while keeping you fully informed, is part of their overall health and wellness strategy.

While the March 16th Council Meeting had been cancelled, the Meeting Agenda had already been prepared and is available for your review (please click here). And since we’re concerned about limiting your access to the Governing Body during this time please feel free to send us your questions and concerns and we’ll respond as soon as possible.

Finally, the Palmyra Police Department will be issuing Nixle alerts as necessary and the Palmyra/Riverton Office of Emergency Management is prepared to issue further instructions and information as warranted.
