MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of the Tax Collector’s Office is to ensure that all property owners in the Borough of Palmyra are billed accurately for property taxes and sewer utility and payments are applied in a timely and accurate fashion.

IMPORTANT TAX AND SEWER INFORMATION

Annual tax bills are mailed and are due quarterly on August 1st, November 1st, February 1st and May 1st.

Added/Omitted tax bills were mailed on or before October 25 the 4th 1/4 payment is due November 1. This bill is for new construction and improvements to existing homes. If you received an added/omitted bill you must pay it in addition to the annual bill that was mailed in August. You must continue to add the bills together for the February and May quarters.

Tax deduction applications for eligible veterans, senior citizens, disabled citizens and their surviving spouses must be filed by December 31.

Taxpayers who receive certain tax deductions must file an annual post tax-year statement certifying their income on or before March 1.

Semi Annual Sewer payments are mailed and due on April 1st and October 1st.

Change of Address request must be in writing


TAX AND SEWER PAYMENT REMINDERS

If you would like to receive an e-mail reminder that your tax bill or water & sewer bill is due, please e-mail tax@boroughofpalmyra.com On or before the payment is due, you will receive an e-mail reminder from us. You will then have through the grace period to pay.


DIRECT DEBIT PAYMENTS

Palmyra Borough is pleased to offer the convenience of Direct Debit of your TAX and SEWER payments from your personal account to Palmyra Borough’s account. Complete and return an AUTOMATED CLEARING HOUSE (ACH) Authorization Agreement with a VOIDED CHECK from your account. There is NO additional charge/fee for this service.  Completed Authorization Agreement forms for tax payments must be received by the 1st of the month preceding the due date. The tax transfer date will be on or around the due date.

Completed Authorization Forms sewer payments must be received by the 15th of the month preceding the due date month. The sewer transfer date will be on or around the due date..

Your account must be current to begin this service. Please note that separate authorization agreements must be completed for tax and for sewer payments.


ONLINE PAYMENTS

You may also pay your Tax and Water/Sewer Utility payments on-line using e-checks, a VISA debit, or a credit card. The service fee for an e-check is $1.95.  The service charge for any other credit card is 2.95% of your total payment. Click here to make a payment.

**We accept cash and checks only in the Tax Office.

**If paying by check, including Bill Pay checks from your Banking Institution, please identify the property the payment is intended for.  You may use the Block/Lot/Qualifier, the Current Tax or Sewer Account Number, or the Property Location. This information is located in the top left section of the Bill. Keep in mind when scheduling your payment to allow enough time to be delivered by the due date. We suggest at least 7-10 days. Unidentified checks will be sent back to the address on the check and may be subject to additional fees. **

PROPERTY TAX RELIEF PROGRAMS

Annual Property Tax Deduction for Senior Citizens, Disabled Persons Application

Annual deduction of up to $250 from property taxes for homeowners age 65 or older or disabled who meet certain income and residency requirements. This benefit is administered by the local municipality.

Annual Deduction for Veterans Application

Annual deduction of up to $250 from taxes due on the real or personal property of qualified war veterans and their unmarried surviving spouses/surviving civil union partners/surviving domestic partners. This benefit is administered by the local municipality.

Property Tax Exemption for Disabled Veterans Application
Full exemption from property taxes on a principal residence for certain totally and permanently disabled war veterans and their unmarried surviving spouses/surviving civil union partners/surviving domestic partners. Unmarried surviving spouses/surviving civil union partners/surviving domestic partners of serviceperson who died on wartime active duty may also qualify. This benefit is administered by the local municipality.

Residential Tax Abatement Program:
The Borough of Palmyra enacted Residential Tax Abatement Program in 1997 allowing for Tax Exemptions & Abatements for a residential dwelling property more than 20 years old and the verification of the residential dwelling property owner of the information contained therein, shall, in determining the value of the real property, regard the first $25,000 of true value of the improvements as not increasing the taxable value of the residential dwelling property for a period of five years. SEWER UTITLITY RELIEF PROGRAMS

Senior Citizen Sewer Discount Application

Any Senior Citizen (65 years or older as of January 1st of the billing year) may be entitled to a $30 discount off their sewer bill. ($15 per twice a year billing) If your sewer bill does not show a deduction and you are entitled to the Senior Discount, please fill out the form below and return to the Tax Office along with proof of age in the form of a driver’s license, valid state id or passport.

 

State Low Income Household Water Assistance Program (LIHWAP)

The State Low Income Household Water Assistance Program (LIHWAP) can help you pay arrears for your water and sewer bills. The program may also be able to help address tax liens due to water and sewer arrears. To get more information and apply, go to waterassistance.nj.gov or call NJ211


SEWER E-BILLS

**E-Bills are available for residents who wish to receive their sewer bill via email. If interested, please email tax@boroughofpalmyra.com   Indicate your sewer account number and property location also include the email address you would like the e-bill to be sent to. Both owners and tenants may sign up. Please remember if you receive an e-bill you will not receive a printed hard copy of the bill.**
