Trash
Trash collection does not occur on New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. Place all trash in bags or cans neatly at the curb, no more than 24 hours before your scheduled collection. DO NOT include recyclables, bulk trash, appliances, chemicals, hazardous materials, brush, leaves, or grass clippings. See the following instructions for removal of these materials. Residents may also call Waste Management at 1-800-633-9096 with questions.

BRUSH COLLECTION PROCEDURES
Brush will be collected on the second Monday of every month except November and December (due to leaf collection). Special collections will be made after heavy windstorms. DO NOT include grass clippings or leaves with brush. All limbs and branches should be cut in 4-foot lengths, and bundled with string. Each bundle should weigh less than 50 lbs. Place neatly curbside no more than 24 hours before collection date. DO NOT place brush in the street. Leaf collection will occur on a regular basis during the months of November and December. Leaves should be neatly piled curbside or in the street for pick-up. Please be careful not to include any branches, trash or metal objects with leaves. DO NOT collect leaves in plastic bags.

Grass clippings are not collected by the Borough, and should not be put out as trash or brush. Use grass clippings as a mulch or compost in the garden, or use a mulching blade on your lawnmower for a healthier lawn.

Place Christmas trees curbside, not in the street, and not in plastic bags. Please be sure to remove all tree stands, ornaments and tinsel.

All brush should be placed at the curb on the second (2nd) Monday of the Month

All brush and limbs shall be placed for collection between the curb and sidewalk with end of brush and limbs facing the same direction.

All brush and limbs shall not be placed at curbside for collection prior to two (2) calendar days preceding the scheduled date of collection.

ALL CONTRACTORS REMOVING TREES ARE RESPOSIBLE FOR THE DISPOSAL OF ALL TREE DEBRIS

No leaves or construction debris are to be mixed with brush.

No grass or sod will be picked up by the Borough

All brush and limbs may be taken to the Public Works Yard, Wednesday 7AM to 2:30 PM

Violation notices will be issued for not keeping the Borough clean.

Violations and Penalties, any person who violates the provisions of this ordinance shall, upon conviction thereof, be subject to a fine not exceeding one thousand dollars ($1,000) or imprisonment for a period not exceeding ninety (90) days or a period of community service not exceeding ninety (90) days, or any combination thereof, in the discretion of the Municipal Court.

BULK TRASH PICK UP

Bulk trash will be picked up on the normal trash day every week. There is a dumpsters available for residents only on Wednesday mornings.

Metal and tires without rims will be picked up on the first Monday or every month only (with the exception of leaf season)

RULES
All lumber will be tied in 4 foot lengths so they can be handled by one man (no more than 50 pounds)

All rugs will be cut in four foot lengths and tied.

No paint, chemicals, asbestos, propane tanks, old gas cans, automotive gas tanks etc. (these items must be taken to the Burlington County Landfill by the homeowner)

All contractors must remove their own waste, this includes lawn services, construction contractors, tree services and rug and carpet installers and any other type of contracted service that generates any waste

No bulk trash, grass clippings, brush or trash containers are to be in the street

Concrete will be picked up by appointment only and can not be placed out at the curb until an appointment is made with the Borough by calling 829-8215

No bagged grass or leaves will be collected by the Borough

Any question can be directed to Public Works at 829-8215. Should a severe storm with cross winds (hurricane like winds) strike the Borough an additional brush pick up will be scheduled.

Please Help the Road Department Help You!
Public Works is asking for the help of residents to help keep our town looking beautiful and to minimize costs. PLEASE help the Street Department keep the streets clean. This starts with policing your own curbs of large items – cans- bottles – cups – etc. It will save time and reduce wear and tear on our equipment, which translates into better cost effectiveness.

Curbs, Sidewalks and Trees
Property owners in Palmyra are required to maintain curbs and sidewalks in satisfactory condition at their own expense. The trees located between the sidewalk and the street are Borough property. Please contact the Palmyra Shade Tree Committee at 829-6100 for suggestions about dealing with problems caused by tree roots from a Borough tree. Please DO NOT trim tree roots as this will create a serious hazard.

Snow Removal
Residents must clear a 30″-wide path on their sidewalks after a snowfall of 2″ or more, within 12 daylight hours of the snowfall. If you are unable clear your sidewalks, make arrangements with someone to take care of shoveling for you. In order for snow plows to clear the streets, residents are asked to move their vehicles off the streets.

Recycling
The following items must be recycled rather than included with your trash. Paper goods including regular paper, newspaper, magazines, and cardboard. Unacceptable for recycling are tissue paper, envelopes with plastic windows, and soiled food containers. Only large appliance boxes need to be flattened. Plastic bottles with a 1 or 2 symbol only, glass jars and bottles (no broken glass or light bulbs), and tin or aluminum cans (no paint or aerosol cans). All of the above should be rinsed clean with lids removed. Place in containers provided by the Borough. Paint, Chemicals, Asbestos, Propane and Gas Tanks
DO NOT include with trash or bulk trash. Call the Burlington County Resource Recovery at (609) 499-5200 for instructions on how to dispose of these materials.

Appliances (white goods), and Tires
Appliances; no electronics are collected; white goods, including refrigerators, washers, dryers; and tires without metal rims are collected on the first Monday of every month regardless of your location. As with other pick-up services, DO NOT put out at the curb until 24 hours before scheduled pick-up time.
Please note: There will be no white goods, electronics or tire pick-up in the months of November and December because of leaf pick-up schedules.

Residents are responsible for maintenance of sewer lines from the house to the main (in the street). Call the Sewer Department first if you are unsure of the source of the problem, and an employee will investigate and determine if you are responsible for its repair. Cooking fat, paint, solvents, chemicals and pesticides should NEVER be poured down the drain. If you are unsure about how to dispose of something, please call the Sewer Department at 829-1476 before you pour.
